Fr Tattersall is most grateful for the prayers for his surgery, and for the various offers of assistance during his convalescence (these will be coordinated through the Parish Secretary’s office at the appropriate time). Throughout Father’s convalescence, all pastoral inquiries should be referred directly to Fr Murphy.

Today the Circle of the Immaculate will hold a cake stall as a Parish fundraiser, and there will be a sign up day for 40 Days for Life, which will be starting later in the month.

First Confession & First Holy Communion – registration: The closing date for those wishing to register their children for First Confession and First Holy Communion is the 15th of September. First Holy Communion will be at the Solemn Mass on Sunday, 8th December (the feast of the Immaculate Conception). The usual age for First Confession and First Holy Communion is seven.  Please email the Secretary, and indicate the child’s date of Baptism (if the Baptism was in the Newman Parish), or otherwise provide a copy of the certificate of Baptism. Sacramental preparation will be given in the Parish Sunday school, or otherwise by arrangement.

40 Days for Life will be running again this year from 25th September to 3rd November. We are looking for volunteers and a sign-up drive is happening today – please look out for the 40DFL table outside Maryvale after the morning Masses and add your name to the volunteer list or ask about what’s involved https://www.40daysforlife.com/en/melbourne. Donations are gratefully accepted to support the campaign and for local pregnancy support. 40 Days for Life Melbourne BSB: 063 167 ACC: 11053337

Registrations are now open for the Christus Rex Pilgrimage in October: visit https://christusrexpilgrimage.com. We warmly encourage participation in the pilgrimage, which is a three day walk from St Patrick’s Cathedral, Ballarat, to Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo, from Friday 25th - Sunday 27th October. .

Update on school with classical curriculum: work continues to implement a classical curriculum in St Philip’s Primary School in Blackburn North. The success of this important initiative by Fr Nicholas Dillon ultimately depends on the support of interested families. Parents who wish to consider this option for their children are requested to complete and submit the following survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/stphilips_bn.
